I have two 5.25 XDm's- one in 9mm and one in 40cal. I run the 9mm slide/barrel/spring on the 40 lower for 3 gun and have no problems at all. There are NO slides available aftermarket or from Springfield to buy. Firearms: None. All were lost in an unfortunate boating accident on Tempe Townlake.The need to dry fire it to release the slide has always been part of the XD. The fact that you don't need to do it for XDm is a selling point. But in fact dry firing the XD for disassembly will not harm the gun at all. XDs was developed starting with the XDm design.
