The Penn 309 used to be the standard for bay trolling. Most guys used 30 lb mono in spring / summer - then put on 30lb Monel for late fall / winter. It's a good reel for spring - I'd stick with lighter lures - up to say 10 ozs. We recently had a Tracker Targa and she did a fine job on the lower Potomac, bay and Great Lakes.
