A good caster should be able to cast 50' to 60' sitting in a float tube with a 9' 5 or 6 weight. But the reality, as Mojo mentioned, is that one rarely needs to make that cast over 40'. In river fishing, the main advantage of the 10' rod is line control. It allows you to keep less line on the water for a dead drift.

Hi there new member from Pa, taking my son on a trip to Colorado, flying into Denver. Looking for some recommendations for a guide would like to stay within a 2 hour drive from Denver. The thick stuff wasn't a huge sheet though. Just enough or one x-large fly box.
