The original, pre-upgrade Highway One Model had an acrylic lacquer finish. When Fender introduced the upgrade model in 2005, they changed to nitrocellulose lacquer. As a side note, I owned both a 2005 pre-upgrade bass (sold for financial reasons) and currently own a 2006 post-upgrade bass.

You could use velcro ties, too, along with some velcro strips under the board, to secure them. And zip ties work well, too. It was a Fender copy before they really made a variation of there own designs, even had the Fender headstock shape. 1) Use a flatheaded screw driver and pull out all the frets. 2) Use 220 grit sandpaper (pretty fine grit) and sand it down till smooth (its rough after you take the frets out). 3) Take wood filler and fill each slot with it and let dry for a couple hours.
