They have been known to have issues, (locking block specifically ), and are very hard to source parts for them.

Thanks Snipe and Wheezer - that's about 100% more than I knew before. Think what I'll try to do is find the nearest dealer that carries Daly 1911's and get a good look at them. It's likely to be a pretty good drive as we're in a little mountain town about 165 miles from the nearest city big enough to have a Walmart.
Basically, the Charles Daly Model 500 field gun lived up to its namesake. It is a very good shotgun that was under priced when new and is still undervalued on today's used market.
