2011 Chevy Silverado HD3500 - Duramax. The truck is one year old. I just did the second oil change because I was going on a cross-country trip. While picking up my camper, I hear the infamous ticking noise. One year ago, I had the water pump replaced due to a service bulletin. Mar 17, 2013 · I have an 01 duramax that I recently replaced headgaskets in. Shortly after the headgasket job a ticking noise appeared. I think it sounds like a lifter ticking. Possibly a lifter loosened up a little after it has been running. A friend of mine disagrees. He says it is injectors ticking because they are bad. I have no other symptoms.

The proper repair for that is to replace all of the high presure fuel side and flush the low pressure side. A failure of the hpfp sends tiny little metal bits into the fuel injectors damaging them. The noise sounds like its from the passenger side so that makes me think those two are the culprit.

I had the oil pan (pacific performance engineering pan )because original pan drain plug is too high and all oil don't drain out. now the noise is gone, I'm thinking the oil pick tube up was hitting the bottom of pan.

When at idle (in park or drive doesn't matter) there is a loud ticking noise coming from what sounds like drivers side rear of engine. It is only at idle as soon as throttle is given it goes away. At first I didn't think anything of it but it keeps getting louder and louder.
