I'm not sure how to explain it because I use Windows but find a youtube tutorial specifically for installing and using Gshade on Mac and follow it one step at a time. The pre-installed presets are for another game by the way. But if you download a preset for the Sims 4, Gshade is made to be compatible with it.

If the file is a .EXE file it won't work on Mac. Otherwise it should work. Gshade works for Mac! Any videos you might have seen telling you it doesn't work ok on a Mac are old ones.
