AITA for telling my son he either has to sell his car or move out. My son is 24 and he has a Charger that my dad left him when he passed away. It is a beautiful car and I wish my dad had left it to me but that isn't the point. My son and him loved working on it together. That's why my son got it. Just because a rent is under market doesn’t mean the family magically has lots of money leftover. We never left the rental we’re in because it’s under market. But we also have significant debt payments and child care costs for my husband’s kids. Just because the real estate market is up doesn’t mean wages are up with it.But my daughter was so excited so I decided to go for it. My late husband's lawyer was furious at my decision so I decided stopped taking his calls. I ended up signing with a money manager who said that we'd be passively earning 90 percent of what surgeons earned per year. But the money manager ended up tanking a lot of our investments.My advice to somebody in the OP’s position would be to have the heirloom in question appraised, decide the minimum price they’re willing to settle for, offer relatives first refusal at 25% over that price, and, if somebody is willing to buy, allow themselves to be bartered down to the minimum price in the name of family.
