When I first looked at the G chop, and tried to form it, I almost put the mandolin down, and walked away. I still have trouble with this, as my hands are on the smaller side, but it can still be done!! E.g., 7-9-10-* has the same range as the G chop, and no doubling. Personally I dislike the so-called two-finger chords with one or two open strings -- again, they don't connect well.
