Rivian tailgate pad.
It doesn't look very padded along the top of the tailgate compared to various bike-company offerings (that don't fit well because of how fat the tailgate is). And even if it were, bikes don't hang well on the tailgate because of how fat it is. The distance between down tube and fork is not nearly enough for the bike to sit down properly.

Crossbars with the rack seem nice because you can still use the bed of the truck and close it. Tailgate is unobstructed. Rear camera and sensors are unobstructed. Cons are that you can only hold two bikes (not sure if you can fit more racks on), and it seems like a pain to remove.I don't begrudge Rivian this, but I'd rather they address other related issues, like being able to disable the auto-down tailgate when accessories are in the hitch receiver. And a way to avoid activating all the "features" of towing mode automatically when you plug anything (like a lighted hitch rack) into the trailer socket.The lift gate doesn’t have to open automatically. In the settings menu, you can disable the power lift gate to control its height manually. Thanks, but what about on automatic setting. A lot of premium SUVs have adjustable lift gate so was wondering about the R1S. If it can, I haven’t figured it out.

I found the ultimate solution for me. It's made by Ride88 and they just made a Rivian specific kit. This thing is awesome. I didn't want a tailgate pad because I didn't want to risk scratching or denting my tailgate and didn't want to mess around with straps. The system I just installed is all bolt in and fits under the tonneau.
