I have both and carry the Shield more often than the 27, its smaller and a good shooter. As far as recoil, it is a 40 - I can clear the mag in couple of seconds all COM. I dont really feel a big diffrence at the range switching back and forth. The Shield has a longer grip if you use the extended mag (holds 7).
