The higher ranking your common and greater but the Draugr Deathlord will make it into your Grand soul gem. Leave the giants and mammoths alone.
Using petty/lesser/common spells on my weapon with spell in other hand drains the charge. same issue using spells while bow is equipped by using Smart Cast rings.
