Nov 26, 2018 · Broken cranks seem to be a very rare problem for Duramax's. People would need to have some fairly sophisticated equipment on a running engine to track how harmonics from the camshaft would eventually result in damage to the crank.
Fluidamper has broken several cranks in DURAMAX's, they're too heavy (11lbs heavier than stock iirc), but the ones built in the last couple of years are supposed to be better. Unfortunately this is far to common on LML's than it should be. Seems 11-13 had a pretty high rate of failure at 150k+ miles. After that, start by replacing the injector that is the worst, then check balance rates again. Ideally you would first run a compression test on any cylinders with high positive balance rates. If you think it might be a rod bearing, pull the filter cut it open, unroll the filter media and take a look for metal, you can also order an oil sample kit, take the sample send it in and it will also tell the tale, if its a bearing. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

They only noticed it when they tore it down to "hop it up". I also had a friend who had an injector in his '97 Powerstroke leak and he hydrolocked it when he started it.

When it goes into reduced engine, the ECM turns off the injector on the cylinder that is knocking, and it goes away. Guessing you can figure out which cylinder it is by turning off injectors with a scan tool.

Once you remove that hub then you can see the cam gear and pin. It might be fine, and your issue is just the hub in front of it. If you’ve got a broken crank and you lose those readings, it can cause a no start. actual fuel pressure reads like 5psi while cranking.
