I played a cragheart to level 9 and it pretty much went how you've imagined. Started out ranged, then became heavily obstacle focused, and ended up being a melee character. Creating obstacles for true damage and then pushing enemys into one with heaving swing, while destroying another adjacent for +3 made for some pretty high DPS.

The main thing you didn't mention is that the true strength of Blunt Force is the good Initiative, which is something the Cragheart desperately needs, especially on the range build (almost every good initiative cards have melee top abilities). It also gives free experience on a bottom action, which is also very rare.
